Watch For Me OK
May 20, 2025
Each May, we celebrate the joy, freedom and community that bicycling brings. Whether you are a seasoned bicyclist or just getting started, Bike Month is the perfect time to hop on two wheels and experience all that biking has to offer, from the physical and mental health benefits to the sense of connection within your neighborhood and the environment.
But Bike Month isn’t just about riding, it is about rethinking how we move through the world. The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) is committed to building a more bike-friendly region because safe, reliable routes are essential to making biking a more efficient and enjoyable way to get around. With 699 miles of bike lanes now in place, ACOG is helping create a safer and more bike-accessible community than ever before.
Safety is essential, whether you are on a bike, behind the wheel or on foot. Everyone shares the road, and it is our collective responsibility to look out for one another. For bicyclists, that means wearing a helmet, using lights and reflective gear and staying alert. For drivers, it means buckling up, obeying speed limits, giving bicyclists at least 3 feet of space (more when possible!) and staying distraction-free.Â
As we prioritize safety, it's also a great time to celebrate the joy and benefits of biking. This May, we invite you to join local events that highlight the fun and community spirit that make Bike Month special:
Wheeler Criterium: Every Tuesday through May 27, from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m., head to the Wheeler District for the Wheeler Criterium, a weekly series of high-energy bike races. It's a great evening out for the whole family, with food trucks, local vendors, and plenty of exciting race action. The series will resume starting July 29.
Donut Ride: Join the Oklahoma Bicycle Society every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. for the Donut Ride, a relaxed, family-friendly group ride perfect for beginners and younger riders. The ride starts at the Will Rogers Park Tennis Center parking lot and includes a delicious stop at a local donut shop.
Hide and Go Bike: Every Thursday night from 6:30–8:30 p.m., participate in Hide and Go Bike, a weekly social ride through different parts of Oklahoma City. Meet at Perle Mesta Park at 6:30 and enjoy a fun, casual evening exploring new routes with fellow riders.
Bike Month is more than a celebration. It is a chance to build a safer, healthier and more connected community. We hope you will participate in these local events, stay safe on the roads and encourage others to do the same. Together, we can make bicycling a bigger, better part of life in Central Oklahoma.
